LCC's Cosmetology Career Academy offers Barber, Cosmetology, Hair Stylist, Esthetician, Nail Technician and Shaving certificate programs, as well as an AAS in Cosmetology in a newly renovated salon and classroom. Each certificate/degree program provides students with the skills and knowledge to successfully complete a certificate exam for licensure in the subject area. These programs meet the Colorado State Board of Barbers and Cosmetology contact hour requirements.
The Colorado State Board of Barbers and Cosmetology administers licensing examinations. Students are assisted in applying for the examination and subsequent license upon completion of their program at Lamar Community College.
Students engage in classroom clinical activities in their learning experience. These activities provide for practice on mannequins to acquire basic skills before advancing to supervised work experience on paying clients in the school salon on the LCC campus.
Certificate programs develops skills for employment and is not intended for transfer into advanced programs in college and universities.

Entrance requirements:
- Students must be enrolled in the college and be at least 16 years of age (birth certificate required).
- The minimum basic skills requirements are a ninth-grade level in mathematics, language usage, and reading.
- Preparatory course are made available to those who have a need to improve their basic skills or to meet the minimum basic skills requirements.

School Salon schedule
LCC's 'Rookies School Salon' is open to the public and offers all hair, skin, and nail services. Call 719-336-4408 to schedule an appointment. The school salon is closed during Christmas, Spring, and Summer breaks.

The Associate of Applied Science degree in Cosmetology is based on a two-year curriculum. An AAS in Cosmetology requires students to complete courses in an area of specialization and designated general education requirements. Completion of the degree prepares students to meet the state licensure examination requirements. » Associate of Applied Science in Cosmetology Degree Plan.
Intermediate training is the combination of theory pertaining to Cosmetology and clinical training that students achieve through a clinical set-up with students working on patrons and/or mannequins.
Advanced Cosmetology is the last training phase of cosmetology. The students training consists of advanced techniques in all subject areas listed below. Advanced Cosmetology combines theory and a clinical through a salon set up with students working on patrons and/or mannequins.
Students have the opportunity to participate in salon visits during their intermediate and advanced training.
Introduction, intermediate, and advanced phases prepare students to become a hair stylist through classroom, clinical, and applied learning activities.
The Nail Technician program provides specialized training in plain manicures, oil manicures, and pedicures. Students learn basic and advanced techniques in acrylic nails, nail art, and paraffin treatments. The curriculum includes proper usage of implements with the sterilization procedures, recognition of nail disorders, and the appropriate treatments. Students completing the 350-hour program will be prepared to take the Colorado State Board License Examination for Nail Technicians. Courses start in summer.
The Esthetician certificate allows students to build skills and knowledge to work with clients in skincare. Courses start in the spring semester.
The Barber certificate offers the skills and confidence to excel as a professional barber. This certificate offers the newest techniques and hands-on experience needed, as well as the business skills and management preparation to launch a successful career in the barbering industry.
Currently licensed cosmetologists or barbers and may consider the LCC Shaving certificate. The Shaving certificate is designed to help students learn the techniques of wet shaving and health and safety when using straight edge razors. It includes traditional wet shaving techniques demonstrations, practical, health and safety, aftercare, retail and benefits.
