LCC employees participate in first Conversation Day.

Lamar Community College held its fourth campus “Conversation Day” on Friday, January 28th in the LCC Wellness Center.  To allow the majority of staff to participate in the event, most offices on campus were closed from 9:30 a – 2:30 p.  The LCC Learning Resource Center/Library, Fitness Center, and Tutoring Lab remained open to serve students.

Originally designed to be an introductory step for reaccreditation with The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, LCC’s Conversation Day has evolved into an opportunity to further strategic planning efforts, communicate across departments, and introduce new initiatives.  This year’s Conversation Day focused on strengthening LCC’s student retention efforts.

Lamar Community College hosted a Quality Checkup visit from a team of reviewers on September 28-30, 2010 as part its periodic review by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, LCC's regional accrediting agency. The visit is part of a periodic evaluation for continued accreditation. Learn more in the Quality Check Report.

With the Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP), LCC has the opportunity to demonstrate that it meets the Higher Learning Commission's accreditation standards and expectations through sequences of events that naturally align with those ongoing activities that characterize organizations striving to improve their performance. By sharing both its advancement activities and the results of these actions with AQIP, LCC will provide the Higher Learning Commission with the evidence it needs to make a public quality assurance judgment and to support and to assist in its efforts to excel at achieving the distinctive higher education mission it has set for itself.

Lamar Community College has completed work on two Action Projects involving improving internal communication and writing a Title III: Strengthening Institutions Grant. Because LCC's Title III grant application was funded in the fall of 2008 and significant progress was made on internal communication, the LCC AQIP Steering Committee agreed to "retire" these projects. While it continues progress on student assessment, it has begun work on improving student communication and strategic planning.

To review progress and engage new staff, the College held another Conversation Day on January 30, 2009 and began final work on creating its System Portfolio.

LCC held its third Conversation Day on January 29, 2010. Summary of work.

Systems Portfolio/Appraisal:
