In 1993 Scott Crampton became the head coach for a Lamar Community College team that had experienced eighteen straight losing seasons. Winning now has become a tradition. With numerous Conference Championships and District playoffs under its belt, LCC has become one of the top 10 programs in the country. In 2002, the Runnin' Lopes set a school record for wins with a 59-5 record and a third place finish at the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, CO. Coach Crampton has been selected Region IX Coach of the Year on numerous occasions.

From 1983–1986, Coach Crampton attended New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM, playing first base. As a junior, he hit .412 and was third in the nation in triples. During his senior year he was an All-American Candidate and Co-Captain. After his playing days, Crampton stayed on through three head coaches as the NSMU hitting instructor from 1987-1993. In 1992 his Aggie hitters finished number one in the nation in Team Home Runs, Team Scoring, and Team Slugging Percentage, and second in Team Batting Average.

Crampton and his wife, Anne-Marie, reside in Lamar with their daughter, Kathryn, and son, Brent.

Larry Scully, Pitching Coach/Recruiting Coordinator

Larry Scully joined the LCC baseball staff in September of 2011 after spending the past four years in sports management and athletic training instruction at Indian Hills CC. With twelve years of previous coaching experience, the lure of baseball drew him back into the game. He gained coaching experience at Saint Louis University, Morningside College, and Indian Hills CC as an assistant and six years at Truman State University as head coach.  Scully is Lamar’s pitching coach and recruiting coordinator.

At Saint Louis University, Scully was the third base coach and was responsible for game management with the Billikens offense and helped the pitching staff to its third lowest team ERA in school history.  At Truman State, Scully led his team to ten conference wins, one shy of the school record, in two of his first four years.  He coached 12 All-Conference players and two players went on to earn ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American honors.  Before Truman State, Scully served as hitting coach and first base coach at Morningside College.  The offense prospered under Scully, setting single season records for batting average, hits, doubles, runs scored and runs batted in.  Scully entered the coaching ranks at Indian Hills CC where he was the pitching coach.  Over that time, IHCC reached the Junior College Div I World Series three times.  Eight of Scully's hurlers have  been selected in the MLB Draft, while three have gone on to the major leagues.

As a player, Scully competed at both Indian Hills CC and Western Kentucky University.  He was also a pitcher in the Canadian Olympic team program.

Scully holds a bachelor’s in English Literature and a master’s in sports science.
