BaseballWinning has become the tradition at Lamar Community College. With numerous conference championships and district playoffs under its belt in recent years, LCC Baseball has become a top program in the country.

Lamar Community College Head Baseball Coach Scott Crampton picked up his 700th win of his coaching career with a 4-3 victory over Western Nebraska Community College on Sunday, February 27, 2011.  Crampton’s career total now stands at 739-319 over 17 seasons. 

Lamar Community College has accrued ten Empire Conference titles, eight Region IX titles, and one World Series appearance (2002) during Crampton’s tenure.  During his 17 seasons, the Lopes have had three 50+ win seasons and seven 40+ win seasons.  142 sophomores have gone on to play at four-year colleges or universities with 30 have signing professionally.  Over the years, 17 players were selected All-Americans while another 20 players have earned Academic All-Americans honors.  A total of 84 players have been selected First Team All-Region in the last 17 years.

Under Coach Crampton, the Runnin’ Lopes have averaged over 40 wins a year and over a .800% winning percentage in conference play over the past ten years. Additionally the Lopes had three seasons of over 50 wins in 2002 (59), 04 (50), and 05 (51). In 2002 the LCC baseball team finished third in the JUCO World Series.

The Baseball program continues to place players at four-year colleges and universities after their playing days at LCC, with well over a hundred players being placed after graduating at LCC. The professional ranks have drafted or signed well over thirty former players as free agents during this time. Current starting pitcher for the Oakland Athletics, Brandon McCarthy played at LCC in 2002.

LCC will hold one-day Pro-style Prospect Tryout Camps this fall and spring. These evaluation camps allow talented prospects the opportunity to demonstrate their college-level skills.
