Softball

For the eighth year in a row, Runnin’ Lopes Softball has ranked in the top 25 hitting teams in the nation with a batting average of .350. One of the primary reasons for the Runnin’ Lopes success is their state-of-the-art facilities. Lamar Community College offers a small college atmosphere with a 9,000 square foot indoor hitting facility, fitness center complete with state-of-the-art weight machines, treadmills, indoor track and gym. Lamar’s outdoor facilities include three lighted softball fields, press box, and restrooms all within walking distance from the college campus.

The Runnin’ Lopes have recruited a large freshman class for the 2009-2010 season. Fifteen players also return, including athletes from Colorado, California, New Mexico, and Utah.

During the 2008 spring season, the Lady Lopes produced 601 hits out of 1588 at bats and a season record of 37-21, winning the region and a #1 seed in the regional tournament.

In the past eight years, Runnin’ Lopes softball has generated six All-American athletes and one Academic All-American. The softball program takes pride in the concept of student-athletes, obtaining the fifth best team GPA in the nation in 2007.

Coach Craig Brooks starts his ninth year as the Lady Lopes head coach and brings twenty-nine years of coaching female athletes and a college record of 294 wins and 193 losses.
