Softball

For the ten of the last twelve years, Runnin’ Lopes Softball has ranked in the top 50 hitting teams in the nation with a batting average of .350. One of the primary reasons for the Runnin’ Lopes success is their state-of-the-art facilities. Lamar Community College offers a small college atmosphere with a 9,000 square foot indoor hitting facility, fitness center complete with state-of-the-art weight machines, treadmills, indoor track and gym. Lamar’s outdoor facilities include Citizens' Field, the new college softball field, with all the amenities including bullpens, lights, press box, and restrooms. Lamar's ball complex includes two additional lighted softball fields, all within walking distance from the college campus.

The Runnin’ Lopes have recruited a large freshman class for the 2011-2012 season. Ten players also return, including athletes from Colorado, Alaska, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Utah.

During the 2011 spring season, the Lady Lopes produced 629 hits out of 1705 at bats and a team hitting average of .369.

In the past ten years, Runnin’ Lopes softball has generated thirteen All-American athletes and two Academic All-American. The softball program takes pride in the concept of student-athletes, obtaining the fifth best team GPA in the nation in 2007.

Coach Craig Brooks has accumulated a college record of 352 wins and 261 losses.
