Head Coach Craig Brooks came to Lamar Community College in 2001 with twenty plus years of experience coaching women’s fast pitch softball. For the past twenty-six years he has coached the Pony Express summer program in the metro Denver area, leading his team to qualify for nine national tournaments. He plays a large part in the Colorado Fireworks Softball Tournament which hosts 191 teams from 44 different states. Coach Brooks was Head Softball Coach at Horizon High School (Denver) for seven years. Before beginning his coaching career, he served in the military for four years during the Vietnam conflict.
Brooks begins this season with a record of 352 wins and 261 losses earning him a .658 win/loss percentage. He maintains a very busy schedule, playing 30 games in the fall exhibition season and 60 highly competitive games in the spring season.
Thirteen nationally ranked athletes have earned All-American titles under coach Brooks as well as having the 5th best team GPA in the nation in 2007 (3.390). Brooks works hard to place any and all his female athletes who want to play at the next level. He has actively placed over forty players to colleges and universities including Division I, II, III and NAIA institutions.
Craig and his wife, Susan, have two grown daughters, Sarah and Sam, and are the proud grandparents of Trey and Taryn.

Assistant coach Phil Forney was born and raised in Mound City, Missouri, where he met his wife, Mary Frances. He attended Northwest Missouri State, where he obtained a Bachelor’s in Biology and Chemistry, and a Masters in Guidance and Counseling. Coach Forney moved to Lamar, Colorado at the age of twenty-one and began his thirty-three year career in the Lamar School District.
Coach Forney was an instrumental part of Lamar High School athletics before his retirement in 1998, allowing him to be a tremendous addition to the Lady Lopes softball program. Coach Forney was an influential part in starting fast pitch softball at the high school level. He began Lamar High School’s Softball program in 1995 and continued to coach the team through the 2002 season. For twenty-seven years, he also coached basketball, baseball, and football at all levels.
Coach Forney has two grown sons, Kevin and Craig.
