Lauren Jones, also known as LJ, has lived in Colorado for 17 years but originally came from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Vermont; Alaska and New Mexico. She took a long time to achieve becoming a licensed school counselor and she’ll tell you why in her talk. Lauren is a nationally certified counselor, who used to teach middle school expeditionary learning, meaning that her students did most of their learning outside in the woods. She has traveled the entire state of Colorado while working for CollegeInColorado.org.

Currently, Lauren is the Career & Technical Education (CTE) Program Director for Special Populations, Counseling and Equity with the Colorado Community College System (CCCS). Her passion for students and their authentic, meaningful learning can be contagious. Her advocacy for School Counselor, Career & Technical Education, ICAP and all things Middle School is prominent in the work she does. Lauren and her husband, Matt have started a mini-homestead in urban Denver that makes them the parents of two funny chickens, one fat rabbit, one sleepy cat, lots of fish and hundreds of worms in the compost. She is both honored and thrilled to be speaking at Girls In The Middle and looks forward to providing inspiration, motivation, humor, encouragement and having a meaningful career conversation!
