James “Red” Heath Memorial Scholarship

A chance for alums to give back to a legacy

heath-scholarship

Family, friends, and former students of legendary LCC James “Red” Heath created the James “Red” Heath Scholarship fund in 2002, at the event of his 75th birthday.

To some, Heath “was” the Agriculture department during his tenure from 1950-1984. During this time, he served in multiple roles including agriculture instructor, livestock judging coach, and rodeo coach. Heath-coached teams won 18 champion and reserve championships at the National Western Stock Show in Denver.  Red also coached highly competitive LCC Rodeo teams from 1950-1970.  And Heath and former Business Instructor Gordon Steinmiller created LCC’s signature Horse Training & Management program; he provided the first horse for the program in 1972.

Following his passing in January of 2009, the fund became a memorial scholarship and additional funds were contributed from friends, former students, and others.

The LCC Foundation serves as caretaker for this fund and is accepting donations to continue an annual $1,000 scholarship for a worthy Rodeo or Horse Training & Management student and keep Red’s passion alive in future generations.

Contributions to the Red Heath Memorial Scholarship Fund may be sent to the
