Students who feel they may need additional resources to fund their educational costs are encouraged to apply for financial assistance. The financial aid staff will make every effort to utilize state, federal, and private resources effectively to meet a student’s documented need. Student financial aid is awarded after the student has been accepted for enrollment and has completed the financial aid application process. It is strongly recommended that a student applying for the upcoming Fall semester apply and complete all paperwork by April 1.

Activate your LCC student email account ( _________@student.cccs.edu) to communicate securely with LCC's Office of Financial Aid. Most correspondence from the Office of Financial Aid is electronic, sent directly to your LCC student email account. Contact 888-800-9198 for assistance in activating your LCC student email account.

Detailed information on all financial aid programs is available on request from the Office of Financial Aid, located in the Student Services Center (Betz Technology Center). For more information, please contact the Financial Aid Director at 719-336-1590 or aid@lamarcc.edu.

Application Procedure for Need-Based Financial Aid

Lamar Community College utilizes the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for determining the student’s eligibility for "need-based" financial aid. Students may also apply online via the Internet at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Online application is recommended, since it has a much shorter processing time. Hard copy applications are also available in the LCC Office of Financial Aid or high school counselor’s offices. In whichever form it is submitted, the FAFSA application should be completed as soon as possible.

LCC's Educational Opportunity Center will assist students with completing their FAFSAs. Contact Dorothy Choat at 719.336.1588 or opportunity@lamarcc.edu. Contact the EOC Office for LCC's FAFSA school code.

Verification Documentation: If your FAFSA has been chosen for verification, download and complete the appropriate form below and submit to the Office of Financial Aid to speed up the financial aid process.

Financial Aid Opportunities
Grants

Lamar Community College administers a number of grant programs available to undergraduate students. Colorado State Grants, which are generally $750 to $1,500 each year, are restricted to Colorado residents. Residents and nonresidents may qualify for a Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, which ranges between $500 to $1,000 per year. Additionally, the institution administers the Federal Pell Grant Program for qualified undergraduates. The Federal Government establishes the dollar limits on these grants each year. All grants may be renewed providing the student continues to document need and maintains satisfactory academic progress.

Scholarships

Scholarships are an excellent way to help cover the cost of an education. There are many scholarships available, but you may need to do some research to find them. Your high school counseling center is one source of information. The Colorado Council on High School/College Relations Handbook, local libraries, churches, parent's employer, local service civic organizations, and the Internet are other good services.

Please see our scholarship page for information on LCC Foundation and other available scholarships.

Loans

Effective Spring Semester 2009, all Colorado Community Colleges will participate in the Federal Direct Loan Program in order to provide students with a more stable source of funding to achieve their educational goals. Federal Direct Student and Federal Direct Loan Parents' for Dependent Students (PLUS) Loans are funded directly through the U.S. Treasury, thereby eliminating lenders and third-party loan servicing providers. Loan amounts vary depending on need and on maximum limits established by Federal regulations.

Work-Study

The Federal and State (eligible Colorado residents only) College Work-Study Program, administered by the Academic Advancement Program Office, provides part-time employment opportunities for qualified students. Students average 12 hours of work per week and earn between $1,000 and $2,000 total per academic year. Awards are based on an evaluation of students' financial need.

A No-Need Work-Study Program also is available to residents. Students do not have to document financial need to receive no-need Work Study

ATTN: Students with Stafford Loans

Lamar Community College has partnered with Nelnet Diversified Solutions (NDS) to offer Responsible Repay, a service that offers you support if you experience difficulty in repaying your Stafford loans. Through this service, you will be contacted if you are delinquent on one or more of your student loan payments. If you are contacted, it is important that you respond to these calls, letters, e-mails, and texts as soon as possible.  NDS is not a collection agency—representatives help you by providing information and counseling on the options available to bring your account current.
