Lamar Community College believes that the assessment of student learning helps
to create a positive educational experience for students. The college assesses
all student learning at three points: when a student enrolls, as a student
completes each course, and as a student prepares to graduate. Below are some
details about student assessments.
Basic skills assessment Lamar Community College believes that students should have good information
about their basic skill levels. The college, in compliance with Colorado State
Statute, C.R.S. 23-1-113.3, requires that all new students demonstrate their
basic skill proficiencies.
New students may not register for classes until they have completed the mandatory
assessment and remediation process unless they are exempt from testing.
All students enrolling in degree or certificate programs at LCC will be assessed
in the basic skills areas of reading, math, writing, and study skills. Students
whose assessments indicate they need assistance with their basic skills will
need to engage in appropriate remediation.
