Horse Programs Tack List

The items listed below are required for all HTM students. Each student must bring these items with them or purchase them upon their arrival in Lamar for the start of the Fall Semester.

Please mark all items with your name, initials, or other identifying mark.

  • 1 – Good quality western saddle with 26″ or 28″ front cinch
  • 1 – Back cinch
  • 2 – Good quality wool saddle pads or blankets
  • 1 – Headstall with O-ring snaffle bit, minimum 4 3/4″ wide – Tom Balding recommended
  • 1 – Pair heavy leather split training reins, 5/8″ to 1″ wide, 7 to 8 ft. long
  • 3 – 18 qt. flat backed buckets for the first semester. Buckets need a snap or hook to hang labeled with your name.
  • 6 – 18 qt. flat backed buckets for the second semester. Buckets need a snap or hook to hang labeled with your name.
  • 1 – Curry comb
  • 1 – Medium soft brush
  • 1 – Rope tie halter, with 8 to 10′ long lead rope
  • 1 – Animal thermometer
  • 1 – Running martingale
  • 1 – Hoof pick
  • 1 – Leather punch
  • 1 – 9-foot-long cotton rope, 3/4″ diameter to be used for hobbles
  • Professional western attire is required for students including quality jeans, shirts, and boots
  • A personal laptop is suggested for all students. Windows laptops are necessary for the PC course.
  • Recommended: Horse cooler sheet and horse stable sheet, 70-72 inches

Equine Business Management Tack List

The items listed below are required for all EBM students. Each student must bring these items with them or purchase them upon their arrival in Lamar for the start of the Fall Semester.

  • 1 – Good quality western saddle with 30″ to 34″ front cinch
  • 1 – Back cinch
  • 2 – Saddle pads or blankets
  • 1 – Headstall
  • 1 – Pair of split reins
  • 3 – 18 qt. flat backed buckets. Buckets need a snap or hook to hang labeled with your name.
  • 1 – Curry comb
  • 1 – Medium soft brush
  • 1 – Flat nylon halter or rope tie halter, with 8 to 10′ long nylon lead rope
  • 1 – Animal thermometer
  • 1 – Hoof pick
  • 1 – Leather punch
  • 1 – Bit of preference
  • Professional western attire is required for students including quality jeans, shirts, and boots
  • A personal laptop is suggested for all students. Windows laptops are necessary for the PC course.
