Innovate & Make Space now open at LCC

After a summer of hard work and preparation, the Lamar Community College Innovate & Make Space (I&MS) is now open for business.  Community members as well as LCC students and staff are welcome to become members of the I&MS and learn how to use a wide range of equipment.

Laura Misenheimer, LCC Innovate & Make Space Manage, is ready to bring in new people with bright ideas to work in the space.

“We are excited to open up the space, invite everyone in, and see what types of creative projects they come up with,” she said.

Hours for the space are currently set as Monday through Wednesday, 8:00am to 12:00pm, and Thursday, 4:00-8:00pm, in the Betz Technology Center Room 100.

The introductory cost is only $5 for community members and free to LCC students and staff.  This introductory rate will continue until May 6, 2018, and does not include the cost of vinyl, PLA filament for the 3D printers, or Cermark for engraving.

I&MS users will work alongside the Master Certified Volunteers to make their projects come to life using state-of-the-art technology including a laser cutter, vinyl cutter and heat press, 3D printers, a milling machine, a router, and an industrial sewing machine and serger.

There are plans in place to add additional machinery as well as certification classes for each piece of equipment.

“The Innovate & Make Space is always growing and changing,” Misenheimer said.  “It’s an evolving process and we’re excited to see where it goes.”
