Nursing Programs and Definitions

LPN Licensed Practical Nurse (See PN or LPN to ADN)
PN One year Associate Degree Nursing Program with a Practical Nursing option. With the completion of one optional course (NUR 169), students are eligible to apply for the National Council Licensure Examination, NCLEX PN.
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) find career opportunities in hospitals, nursing homes, physician's offices, and other community health service areas.
The Colorado Nursing Articulation Model (agreement for transfer of some credits within community college nursing programs or to four-year colleges and universities) enables LPNs to pursue a Baccalaureate Degree of Nursing (BSN).
RN Registered Nurse (See ADN)
ADN Associate Degree Nursing graduates are eligible to apply for the National Council Licensure Examination, NCLEX RN.
Registered nurses are the largest group of health care providers and work in a variety of settings ranging from schools, hospitals, clinics and health departments to name just a few. Registered nurses have both independent and supervisory responsibilities in managing patient care. In addition, RN's work with a variety of health care professionals and carry out physician orders to ensure quality patient care.
